Wines & Beers
We love having the opportunity to expose our customers to lesser-known varietals and wines from unique regions around the world. Some of the newest wine selections at Horatius come from the Priorat region of Spain. The elevated, hilly region with rocky soil creates highly stressed vines that compete for water, resulting in deeply flavored, concentrated wines with a distinct earthy, mineral quality.

ONE-OF-A-KIND WINE
Alves De Sousa
Abandonado 2004
This seductive, lush wine is from the Doura region of Portugal. These few bottles are some of the only remaining 2004 vintage, the vintage that launched this wine’s international reputation. The grapes are from a small abandoned vineyard where 80-year old vines were never replaced. The highest point on a terraced estate, the vines was neglected until the winery had the capability of producing small production wines. The name is derived from the nickname given this special “abandoned” vineyard. Aged for 15 months in a blend of Portuguese and French Oak, it has rich, red fruit flavor and drying tannins balanced with ripe acidity. A wine that is constantly changing in the glass, Horatius was lucky enough to procure a tiny amount of this wine. Join us at our Wine Bar to have the opportunity to try some of this truly spectacular wine.
Each bottle of this exclusive 2004 Abandonado is $200 per bottle or $600 per case of three bottles plus tax and shipping and handling if applicable. For out-of-state, no taxes are added, just shipping and handling.

PORTUGUESE BEER
Chocolate or Vanilla? Cheddar or Swiss? Coke or Pepsi?
In Portugal, the great rivalry is between two beers: Sagres or Super Bock.
Sagres is the beer of Lisboa (Lisbon), a crisp refreshing pilsner with a hint of citrus. Smooth and elegant, it is great paired with seafood and spicy dishes. The Sagres line also offers
Sagres Preta (dark), Sagres Bohemia (amber) and Sagres Zero (non-alcoholic & zero calories).
Super Bock is from just outside the city of Porto, and is a pale lager with a smooth and rich flavor. Try it with a favorite grilled fish dish or on a sunny afternoon while at a football match.
Which is our favorite here at Horatius? We’ll never tell.
Each bottle of this imported beer is $5. You can also buy six-packs for $14.99. Cases are also avaiable. |
