History of Potrero Hill
Once known for the goat trails snaking down its verdant slopes and the livestock grazing that marked its landscape, San Francisco’s Potrero Hill is now the design district of the city. It is a vibrant neighborhood community known for its furniture boutiques, fantastic views and world-famous brewery. For San Francisco locals, Potrero Hill has always been noted for a precious summer commodity: sunshine. Even when San Francisco is in the throes of its foggy and cool summer, Potrero Hill boasts more sun and higher temperatures than elsewhere in the city. Potrero Hill’s name is derived from the Spanish word “pasture,” a reference to a land grant given to Francisco De Haro for grazing his livestock. Horatius is a reflection of today’s Potrero Hill; modern but with a nod to its pastoral history.
