About Horatius

In San Francisco, Horatius was a unique venue with a full service wine bar and art gallery. Our selected group of catering companies and a state-of-the-art kitchen facility made Horatius the perfect choice for banquets, fundraising dinners, weddings, lectures and seminars, birthday celebrations, product launches and demonstrations, or any other event you choose.

Horatius was built on the belief that items made with care, authenticity and respect for the environment enhance our daily lives. The company continues to be committed to providing products which meet those standards. The name is inspired by the classical Roman poet Horatius (known for his lyrical "Odes" and the actual creator of the Latin phrase "carpe diem") and the name of the founder, Horacio Gomes, both represented by the emblematic corporate shield of blue and purple. The philosophy of Horatius is that time is fleeting, so seize the moment and revel in the simple pleasures of life.

Horatius offered an exclusive selection of imported wines and beers from international and local producers. Our in-house catering made Portuguese and Latin American-inspired appetizers with a Californian lightness and sensibility. Based on the belief that great food comes from great ingredients, our kitchen featured local, organic and sustainable foods whenever possible.

Soaring ceilings and a state-of-the-art presentation system made Horatius in San Francisco a memorable venue for a variety of events. The spacious, light-filled interior was enhanced by a display of art and found artifacts. A defining feature was the massive Barn Door, constructed onsite from reclaimed American barn wood and forged iron nails and custom made fittings. It reflected the philosophy of Horatius and served as a reminder that the juxtaposition of old and new, rural and urban, classical and modern can coexist harmoniously.
